AMRIK'S STORY
Amrik Singh Rai was diagnosed with an advanced stage of a type of liver cancer called hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at the end of March 2024. The cancer was first detected during a routine ultrasound screening performed every six months. A follow-up triple-phase CT scan and liver biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Unfortunately, his symptoms worsened shortly after the biopsy, leading to hospitalisation. It was during this hospital stay that he was informed of the terminal nature of his illness. Given the advanced stage of the disease and his rapidly declining liver function, curative treatments were not viable, and no life-extending palliative options were available. On Sunday, June 30, 2024, Amrik passed away at home at the age of 70, surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves behind his wife and three sons.
Amrik lived in Hounslow for over 60 years and passed away only a few doors down from where he grew up. Throughout his life, he not only witnessed significant changes in Hounslow and and the vibrant growth of our local communities but also embodied love and selflessness as a devoted father. His absence leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish his memory.
This campaign emphasises early detection, education, and access to preventive healthcare. Its primary goal is to provide FREE community FibroScan screenings, a non-invasive method for assessing liver health.
With liver cancer becoming one of the fastest-growing causes of cancer-related deaths in the UK, taking action is more important than ever. Early detection can greatly improve survival rates, yet many people—especially those in high-risk communities—struggle to access timely diagnosis and care. This campaign is open to everyone and aims to break down these barriers, providing individuals with the knowledge and resources to protect their liver health.
